An award-winning former Baltimore Sun staff reporter, editor and columnist, Ellen’s stories and columns have appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, Money, Self, Success, Venture, and Fortune. She writes the nationally syndicated newspaper column “Smart Moves” for Universal Uclick.

Ellen’s commentaries have been heard often on “Marketplace,” the American Public Media radio show. She’s appeared on “Good Morning America,” CNBC and other national TV. She’s a former contributing editor and columnist for Institutional Investor. She was awarded a Knight-Bagehot Fellowship for journalists in business and economics from Columbia University. Elected in 2013, Ellen is an active member of the National Press Club. She holds masters’ degrees in journalism and international affairs from Columbia.
